Clinical Aromatherapy

Have you ever noticed how powerfully smell can affect how you feel?
The scent of cut grass can transport you back to lazy days of childhood, summer holidays or playing outside.
Pine might remind you of Christmas mornings, whilst the scent of sun lotion can instantly bring back memories of holidays, beaches and long summer days.
Why is that?
Our sense of smell has strong connections with the parts of the brain involved with emotion and memory, which helps explain why particular aromas can evoke such powerful feelings and memories.
Clinical aromatherapy uses carefully selected botanical aromas as part of a personalised approach to wellbeing, offering a gentle way to support relaxation and create a sense of calm in a busy day.
Modern life can place significant demands on both physical and emotional wellbeing. Stress, poor sleep, fatigue, muscular tension, anxiety, and the pressures of work and family life can all affect how we feel and function.
That’s where my approach to aromatherapy begins.
I’ve always been someone who enjoys solving problems, spotting connections and working out how different pieces fit together. I bring that same curiosity into my work as a therapist.
When it comes to essential oils, I’m fascinated by the chemistry behind them. I don’t just see an essential oil as a particular scent, I ask myself -

Does this oil have the right chemical components that I am looking for?
Do these details fit the person sitting in front of me?

I can consider the characteristics of different oils, look at what the available research tells me and start putting the pieces together.

But chemistry is only part of the picture.
Exploring how scent can influence the brain, body and wellbeing.
Because then there’s you
Your circumstances, sensitivities, preferences, lifestyle and what you’re hoping to get from your session are just as important.
What works beautifully for one person may not be the right fit for another. Your individual circumstances can change what is appropriate, which is why I believe good aromatherapy starts with listening, asking questions and understanding the person — not simply choosing an oil from a list.

Sometimes the answer is about finding the right oil.
Sometimes it’s about adapting the approach.
But its always about what is appropriate for you.
Asking questions, exploring the possibilities, looking at what fits and adapting things when it doesn’t.
This is what makes aromatherapy so interesting.
It’s a combination of science, investigation, observation and problem-solving — with a real person at the heart of it.
Putting the pieces together
No two people are the same, so I don’t believe aromatherapy should be a one-size-fits-all approach.
Your session gives us the opportunity to explore what you need and consider what might be the right fit for you.
I bring together my knowledge of essential oil chemistry, traditional aromatherapy and the most up to date research, and take into account your individual circumstances, preferences and sensitivities.

Do you have a concern, symptom or area of wellbeing you’d like support with?
Bring it to the session and we’ll explore it together.
If you commit to working with me, I’ll commit to drawing on all my training, experience and knowledge to help you explore what may be possible — and to doing the very best I can to create a safe, thoughtful and genuinely personalised aromatherapy experience for you.
Sometimes finding the right approach takes a little detective work.
